EU Cybersecurity and Digital Identity standards are fundamental to achieving digital resilience, ensuring security, interoperability, and trust across digital ecosystems.
As technologies evolve rapidly, the EU’s leadership in standardisation plays a key role in shaping international solutions, products, and services.
This workshop offers a deep dive into Europe’s impact on global cybersecurity and digital identity standards, showcasing how EU standards have influenced international products and services.
As part of the efforts within INSTAR to gather best practices between European standardisation experts and international partner countries, this workshop draws on some key insights from present work that is influencing global standardisation in both cybersecurity and digital identity.
Participants will gain valuable insights from leading experts representing the EU-funded projects Cyberstand, INSTAR, and Indico-Global, as well as from relevant experts from Japan and South Korea.
The discussion will highlight major cybersecurity standardisation activities in these regions, potential collaboration opportunities with the EU, and best practices in ICT standards where Europe may have influenced products and services in these markets.

Paolo Campegiani, Ph. D., is the head of Innovation in Namirial, the largest European Qualified Trust Service Provider. In standardization, he was a founder and he is a member of several standardization committees. Now he is focused on the standards for the Digital Product Passport, and in the development of the ISO 23042 which is about interoperability of digital wallets.

![]() | Hee Bong CHOI is a Professor at Kookmin University and member of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC27. With a Ph.D. in Information Security, he serves as Editor or Co-editor for multiple ISO/IEC standards, including cryptographic module security (ISO/IEC 19790/24759), IT security evaluation (ISO/IEC 15408-5), AI technology evaluation, and privacy in the metaverse. He also contributes to ITU-T’s work on avatar data protection. His expertise spans information security and privacy, with a strong focus on global standardisation efforts. |

Debora Comparin is Standardisation Expert at Thales Cybersecurity & Digital Identity, founder and chair of the OSIA Initiative, co-founder of SIDI Hub, and Advisory Board member of the Linux Foundation Europe. Debora is a Tech Policy Fellow at UC Berkeley where she is analyzing how secure hardware platform(s) technology aligns with policy requirements to ensure the security of digital identity wallets.

Sebastian Elfors is senior architect and trust services CSO at IDnow. He is also a member of CEN TC224, ETSI ESI, Cloud Signature Consortium and is an external expert to the EU Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA). He has contributed to several standards of digital identities.

![]() | Ms Kyeonghee OH is the CEO of TCA Services and serves as an Industry-Academia Collaboration Professor at Dankook University. With 29 years of experience as a professional in information security and blockchain, she specialized in the following areas: Information security, Cybersecurity, Blockchain and DLT security, Digital wallet security Her accomplishments includes the establishment of Korean evaluation criteria for information security products and the National PKI. She was instrumental in developing the Digital Signature Act, establishing Root CA, and evaluating Licensed CAs. She led the development of the ISMS certification scheme. |

Octavian Popescu is a dedicated professional with more than 30 years of experience in electronics and telecommunications engineering and a passion for technological progress and interested in technology supporting societal evolution. He held different roles in organisations engaged in a variety of fields: as a developer or being in charge of testing in companies producing medical or industrial computing or telecom systems, consumer electronics, service industry, or policy officer on contract with the European Commission, on the team in charge of the Radio Equipment Directive. Since 2013, as consultant and EUCOMREG SRL company owner, he advises and represent his international clients in matters relating to the regulatory aspects of radio devices in the European Union.
