On Monday 20th September, the Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) hosted the "Democratic Use of AI Standardisation and its Future" workshop, bringing together leading experts from Europe and Japan to discuss one of today's most important topics: AI standardisation. The programme featured keynote speeches and panel discussions on emerging AI standardisation challenges, governance frameworks, AI agents, conformity assessment, and human oversight.

As AI continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, developing governance frameworks and standards that address key areas such as customisation, situational awareness, privacy, and security is becoming increasingly important. International dialogue and collaboration play a crucial role in shaping emerging technologies by enabling the exchange of perspectives, best practices, and trusted approaches to AI standardisation.

The workshop also highlights the legacy of the INSTAR project, as the cooperation established with the Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) has been successfully carried forward through AIOTI, ensuring the continuity of international collaboration on AI standardisation.
